Ballet

Jamal’s ballet class is a somatic approach to the fundamental forms and structure found in American ballet. In this class, dancer’s will be guided through barre and center combinations that allow them to draw connections from classical ballet to other genres of dance. Jamal’s mission in class is to eliminate ideas rooted in traditional thoughts in ballet and make ballet accessible and inclusive for all people.

Building Contemporary Repertory

This contemporary class uses structured improvisation scores, dealing with gravity and its effects on the body, to build phrase work. Jamal guides the class through progressive and somatic tasks that culminate with a series of movements that exercise the dancer's use of weight, space, and spirals in the body.
